Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : Jail Death Autopsy Shows No Foul Play

A preliminary autopsy showed no signs of trauma or foul play on the body of an inmate who was found dead in his cell in the Orange County Jail on Tuesday, Lt. Richard J. Olson of the Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday.

However, toxicological tests have been ordered to determine what caused the death of Robert Jimenez Orozco, 28, who had been arrested Sunday on a robbery charge, Olson said.

Orozco, of La Puente, was discovered dead during head count in the central men’s jail in Santa Ana at 4:53 a.m. Tuesday. Other inmates said Orozco complained of being severely ill Monday night and had asked for medication but his requests were ignored.

Orozco was arrested in Buena Park Sunday, after he allegedly walked out of a supermarket with a cartload of groceries, police said.

At the time of his arrest, Orozco was being sought on warrants for suspicion of being under the influence of narcotics and for driving without a license. He was being held on $50,000 bail and was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning in North Orange County Municipal Court.

As with all deaths that occur in the jail, the Orange County district attorney’s office is investigating.
