The skipper of the Navy aircraft carrier Enterprise canceled a hangar deck show featuring models in swimwear and aerobic leotards just before the vessel set out from Alameda on a two-week training cruise. Capt. Robert Spane said he reconsidered his decision to allow the show after reading reports that “the traditional fashion show could be construed as sexually oriented entertainment forbidden under naval regulations.” More than 3,000 sailors had been expected to crowd the hangar deck for the half-hour musical show. Spane had agreed to allow the show on the ship after being assured it would be “straightforward” without sexual overtones and would not violate naval regulations, said a spokesman for Ujena of California, a Mountain View manufacturer of swimwear and aerobic outfits.
