John Gilchrist, a former city planner for Miami, has been named executive director of the Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corp., the nonprofit agency that is overseeing a $26.8-million redevelopment of the pier.
Gilchrist, who took over the position last month, replaces Gail Markens, who resigned late last year.
Before joining the Pier Restoration Corp., Gilchrist was director of the city of Miami’s Department of Development, a job he held for three years.
Gilchrist’s duties will include negotiating leases for new operators and merchants the city hopes to attract to the redeveloped pier.
Gilchrist, 57, was hired at a salary of $75,000 a year.
