Hussein, PLO Meet to Discuss West Bank Plan

AMMAN, Jordan — King Hussein on Saturday met with PLO envoys who are seeking postponement of his plan to sever ties to the Israeli-occupied West Bank to allow the organization time to cope with the cutoff, a Palestinian official said.
The meeting was the first between Hussein and representatives of the Palestine Liberation Organization since the February, 1986, collapse of an agreement on a joint approach to a political settlement of the Palestine problem.
Jordan’s official news agency said Hussein met with Mahmoud Abbas, Abdullah Hourani and Mohammed Milhem, all members of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s Executive Committee, as well as Hani Hassan, a senior adviser to PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat.
The news agency gave no details. However a PLO official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told United Press International that Jordanian officials are considering a request for a delay on Hussein’s disengagement until after the Palestine National Council, the Palestinian parliament in exile, convenes in Algiers next month.
The PLO delegation, which met Friday with top Jordanian officials, is expected to hold a second round of talks today.
