Mora Leads Guadalajara Over Aguila

Octavio Mora scored one goal and assisted on another, as the University of Guadalajara defeated Aguila of El Salvador, 2-0, at Santa Ana Stadium Sunday. It was a quarterfinal match of the North American Tournament.

Guadalajara plays Teluca of Mexico in the semifinals at the Los Angeles Coliseum on Aug. 21. Herediano of Costa Rica plays Olympia Honduras at Santa Ana Stadium on Aug. 28 in the other semifinal match.

On Sunday, Guadalajara took the lead at the 25-minute mark of the first half, when Mora took a pass from Humberto Romero and scored. Mora then set up Salvador Reyes for a goal 44 minutes into the first half for a 2-0 halftime lead.

Alfonso Sosa scored an unassisted goal six minutes into the second half to give Guadalajara a 3-0 lead.

Luis Guelmo and Hector Rosales scored unassisted goals to pull Aguila to within one, 3-2, midway through the second half.

However, Daniel Guzman’s goal at the 27-minute mark gave Guadalajara a 4-2 lead.

Guelmo scored with 10 minutes left in the match.

Guadalajara outshot Aguila, 32-18.
