Noted South African playwright-actor Athol Fugard is moonlighting a little. In addition to performing in the Off-Broadway production of his play, “The Road to Mecca,” Fugard is appearing on the daytime soap “One Life To Live.” Fugard is playing a “crusty old ex-sea captain who uses a wheelchair and lives in an abandoned lighthouse with his “slightly strange, psychotic daughter,” the show’s producer, Paul Rauch, told The New York Times. “I like to cast good actors from Broadway or Off-Broadway because it’s a good experience for them to get exposure and make some money,” Rauch added.
