Hoping to make a bigger dent in the personal computer market in Europe and the Middle East, CMS Enhancements has opened a branch sales office in the Netherlands.

CMS, a manufacturer of personal computer storage devices and accessories, said the Netherlands office is part of an expansion that includes the addition of a new building to the company’s headquarters complex in Tustin. The company will move into the new 43,000-square-foot structure on Friday.

At present, about 10% of CMS’s total sales are in Europe. But the company hopes to substantially increase European sales during the next few years.

“Our business is growing very rapidly in that part of the world,” said Ted James, marketing manager. “We’ve been handling all our sales by telephone here in Tustin.”

CMS said it expects to hire about 30 people for the Netherlands office. David McKeever, CMS’s international sales manager, will head the new office.

The company’s only other foreign office is in Singapore.

In another expansion move, CMS said it has formed a new service and repair division. The division will perform warranty service for dealers and distributors of all the company’s products.

CMS has already been providing service and repair for its customers, but has decided to expand the operation and create a full division. The company said it expects to hire 20 to 30 people during the next several months to work in the division.

John James, who has worked for several computer service companies during the past 15 years, was appointed manager of the new division.
