Trial Ordered for Gang Member in Pacoima Slaying

A gang member from Lake View Terrace was ordered to stand trial Thursday in the death of a Pacoima man and the attempted shooting of a woman, both of whom authorities said were wearing the colors of a rival gang.

Michael Anthony Tanner, 24, a member of the Venice Shoreline Crips, was charged with the murder of Vance Collins, 22, and the attempted murder of Tanya Delouth, 24, also of Pacoima.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Edward Nison said Collins and Delouth, who were shot in separate incidents about three hours apart, “just happened to be wearing the wrong color at the wrong time.” Nison said Collins was wearing red pants when he was killed and Delouth was wearing a red jacket when she was shot. Neither belonged to a gang.

Nison said there was no motive for the shootings other than “gang-banging.”

About 11 p.m May 2, four shots were fired at Delouth while she walked in a parking lot at Pierce Park Apartments in Pacoima. She was not hit. Delouth testified at a preliminary hearing Thursday that the man who shot at her was Tanner.

At 2:30 a.m. the next morning, about a block away from Pierce Park Apartments, Collins was shot, Nison said. His body was found on Borden Avenue near Pierce Street.
