William Hall, artistic director of the Master Chorale of Orange County and the William Hall Chorale in Los Angeles, underwent surgery for appendicitis and removal of kidney stones last week while visiting Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Hall Chorale board president Bob Guyett said Friday.
Guyett said Hall had been checking arrangements for a July, 1988, Hall Chorale tour of Hong Kong, India and Indonesia when he became ill and was hospitalized. Hall is expected to fly back to the Unites States Thursday and will need six to eight weeks to recuperate, Guyett said.
Hall has canceled a 3 1/2-week Hall Chorale tour of the Midwest and East, which had been scheduled for late September and October but is otherwise expected to conduct as scheduled once his recuperation is complete, Guyett said.
The Master Chorale of Orange County season will open Oct. 30 with a Mozart program at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa. The Hall Chorale season will open Nov. 20 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium with Dvorak’s Requiem.
