NBC and the United States Olympic Committee already know that the network won’t be playing that traditional trumpets-and-drums signature tune for this summer’s Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. The reason? ABC, which has telecast the majority of Olympics in the past, holds the rights to the theme, which is actually “Bugler’s Dream,” composed by Leo Arnaud. Instead, NBC commissioned film composer John Williams to compose a new fanfare for the Seoul games. The network and Arista Records will include the Williams work on “The 1988 Summer Olympics Album: One Moment in Time,” the Olympics sound track due for release on Aug. 31. The Williams fanfare will also be released as a pop single.
