Local News in Brief : Anaheim : Chino Man, 29, Dies in Crash at Interchange
A Chino man died Monday of injuries suffered when his car crashed on the transition road between the Riverside and Orange freeways, authorities said.
California Highway Patrol spokesman Michael Lundquist said Bruce Helmick, 29, was going from the eastbound Riverside Freeway to the northbound Orange Freeway at about 60 m.p.h. Sunday night when he lost control of his 1983 Mercury Capri.
“He spun out to the right over the embankment, rolled over and came to rest in a concrete drainage ditch,” Lundquist said. “The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected.”
Helmick, who was alone in the car, was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was pronounced dead about 3:30 a.m.
