Wooing the crowd with his expertise at conducting and humorous facial expressions, computer technician William Rockwood of Canoga Park won the first round of competitions for KFAC’s Los Angeles Philharmonic “Guest Conductor” contest held recently at Tower Records in Northridge. Dressed in a black tuxedo, the 33-year-old classical music lover outdid 47 other contestants for a shot at conducting “The Star-Spangled Banner” at a Los Angeles Philharmonic concert at Hollywood Bowl on Sept. 6. The next round will be held Sunday, again at Tower in Northridge, with some celebrity judges in attendance.
