County Board

Share

The League of Women Voters of Los Angeles County is in complete agreement with Frank del Olmo when he wrote that what this county needs is a new form of government (Op-Ed Page, July 29).

In 1958, the Board of Supervisors authorized a study of our county charter. That commission found that separating the board from administrative responsibilities would permit supervisors more time to concentrate on representation of constituents, legislation, and policy-making. Thirty years later, after our own studies, the League still agrees with those findings. We favor the concept of a county executive, preferably accountable to the voters, and an increase in the numbers of supervisors to serve our ever-growing population. All of us need to be more adequately served and represented.
