Mayor W. Wilson Goode ordered the distribution of free condoms to inmates in Philadelphia’s four prisons starting next month as part of a program to prevent the spread of the AIDS virus. Goode also ordered the city AIDS Activity Coordinating Office to develop a program for educating prisoners and staff of the dangers of the fatal disease and how it is transmitted. The prisons must provide presentations on AIDS five times a week at which inmates will receive three condoms each and an information packet, Goode said. His executive order also calls for treatment of inmates.
