Redondo Beach City Councilman Steve Colin spent about $10,000 on his recent election campaign--about $7,500 less than his strongest opponent, according to recently filed campaign disclosure statements.

Colin, 31, an attorney, was elected to the District 3 seat in a May 17 runoff election that drew the largest voter turnout for a special election in the city’s history. Colin received 53.7% of the vote to defeat William R. (Bill) Mona, a union business representative, who got 46.3% of the vote.

Colin spent $10,027 of the $10,255 that he raised for his campaign, according to his disclosure statement. He will serve the three years remaining in the term of Marcia Martin, who resigned last November.

Mona raised $22,803 and spent $17,820 on his campaign, according to his statement.

Mona placed first of three candidates in the primary election in March, but because he did not receive 50% of the vote, a runoff was held. William Brad Parton, who placed third in the primary and was eliminated, raised $4,217 for his campaign and spent $5,053, according to his disclosure statement.

District 3 is bordered by Marshall Field Lane, 190th Street, Paulina Avenue and the Torrance and Hermosa Beach city limits.
