The United States will review the duty-free privileges of six countries accused of abusing workers’ rights, Trade Representative Clayton K. Yeutter announced. The six include Israel, which has been charged with violating the rights of Palestinian workers, and Syria, Burma, Haiti, Liberia and Malaysia. Any country found to have abused workers’ rights would risk losing the right to export its products to the United States free of duty under a program of preferences designed to help the growth of developing nations. To qualify, beneficiaries must comply with international trade union laws.
