After 40 days behind bars, 31 anti-abortion activists arrested in Atlanta during the Democratic National Convention revealed their identities to police and were freed from jail. “I want everyone to know this is not a sign that we are giving up,” said the Rev. Edwin Arentsen, 71, of Illinois, who was involved in the demonstrations. “We are going to return to our homes and we are going to recruit more people to come to Atlanta.” Those freed were among 134 arrested July 19. Two protesters remained in jail, and one, who as part of his protest would identify himself only as Baby John Doe, and who has been on a water-only fast since his arrest, has been hospitalized.
