Winnebago motor homes, long a fixture on American highways, will soon travel the winding roads of Japan, under an agreement between Winnebago Industries and Mitsubishi Corp.

Under the agreement, Mitsubishi will distribute Winnebago and Itasca motor homes and recreational vehicles in Japan, beginning in September.

In Forest City, Iowa, Winnebago President Gerald Gilbert said the company hopes to sell 240 of its vehicles in Japan during the next 12 months.

The agreement between Mitsubishi and Winnebago was negotiated by the Commerce Department and the Japanese Ministry of International Trade and Industry under a program designed to bolster exports of U.S. products to Japan.
