Gangs of youths threw bombs and hijacked trucks in Belfast, Northern Ireland, for a second night after a convicted Irish Republican Army guerrilla was extradited from the Irish Republic. At least 16 people were wounded in violence that police blamed on the outlawed IRA. Police said there were no serious injuries. Violence was reported throughout Northern Ireland after Robert Russell was extradited to Northern Ireland to complete a prison term for attempted murder and to face new charges of prison escape. Since Saturday, there have been 193 attacks on police units, 23 shooting incidents, 17 bombings and 56 hijackings of cars, vans and buses, police said.
