Texas Instruments Inc. said it would build a new family of high-powered computer systems using a microprocessor designed by Sun Microsystems Inc. of Mountain View, Calif. The Dallas-based company said it signed a long-term agreement under which it would license Sun’s Sparc computer chip for its own use and to market to other computer makers worldwide. Texas Instruments said it would also work jointly with Sun, to develop advanced versions of the Sparc chip. The company said it would initially obtain the Sparc chip under a five-year contract with Cypress Semiconductor. In exchange, Cypress will have the right to resell certain Texas Instruments products.
