Singer Co. has agreed to sell its Kearfott Guidance and Navigation division to Astronautics Corp. of America for $285 million. The sale brings to $2 billion the amount that Singer’s owners, headed by investor Paul A. Bilzerian, have raised in asset sales since they took the Stamford, Conn.-based military and industrial products concern private earlier this year at a total cost of $1.9 billion. The Kearfott division, which is based in Little Falls, N.J., produces guidance and navigation systems used in the Trident fleet ballistic missile, the B-1B bomber, the space shuttle and tactical aircraft. Astronautics, based in Milwaukee, is a privately held firm which designs, produces and maintains military and electronic systems.
