In simultaneous raids by 90 sheriff’s deputies on residences in southeast Los Angeles County, eight reputed gang members were arrested at dawn Friday for their alleged participation in three drive-by shootings at residences in Santa Fe Springs.

Two rifles and a shotgun were seized in the raids, said Capt. Ray Gott of Operation Safe Streets, the sheriff’s anti-gang detail.

Gott said the rivalry between two gangs has led to “eight or nine reported and unreported shootings at either dwellings or people in residential areas” during the last five weeks in Santa Fe Springs. The arrests stem from three shooting incidents late last month in which no one was injured.

Tony Aguirre and Albert Therrian, both 20, were arrested on warrants charging assault with a deadly weapon. The other suspects were juveniles ranging in age from 14 to 17, Gott said.

“The raid was was very successful,” Gott said. “No one got hurt, and we got some weapons off the street and put some people in jail who have been spreading violence.”
