‘Appalled’ by Trustees’ Action
I am appalled by the shoddy treatment Rio Hondo College Trustees Bill Hernandez, Ralph Pacheco and Hilda Solis accorded President/Supt. Herbert M. Sussman in the trio’s latest power play (“President’s Job On Line,” Southeast/Long Beach sections, Aug. 4).
From published accounts, it is obvious that they arrived at some understanding, prior to the closed-door session, concerning the president’s future. Over the objections of Trustees Marilee Morgan and Isabelle Gonthier, they voted 3 to 2 to dismiss President Sussman and buy up his contract at an estimated $85,000 to $100,000.
As taxpayers, we must actively prevent Rio Hondo College from becoming an educational victim of personal, divisive agendas, and that future policies be such that only the highest quality personnel be employed without regard to race, ethnic background or gender.
