Roach of Encinitas Wins Body Board Title

Keith Sasaki, 25, of Honolulu, won his fourth National Body Board Championship Sunday at Oceanside Pier.

Paul Roach, a 15-year-old from Encinitas, won the AAA amateur title.

Other winners from the San Diego area included Chris Campbell, 12, of Oceanside (boys 12-under) and Manny Vargas, 16, of Imperial Beach (junior men 13-16).

John Shearer, 33, of Hermosa Beach defended his men’s 30-and-over title as did 14-year-old Glenda Kozlowski of Rio de Janeiro, who won the women’s open competition.

HORSESHOES

Diane Lopez, the current women’s world champion, went 5-0 to defend her title at the California State Championships at Balboa Park Sunday. Lopez had 187 ringers in 238 pitches.
