Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton, Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer and Mississippi Gov. Ray Mabus met with Japanese officials and appealed for more Japanese investment in their states to help with economic hardship. The three Democrats said their states had been hit by declines in manufacturing and the oil industry but were rich in assets that the Japanese need. The three men met with Prime Minister Noboru Takeshita to urge increased Japanese investment and also met with officials of the Japan External Trade Organization, the Japan-Southern U.S. Assn. and officials of the Export-Import Bank of Japan.
