$25,000 Given to Maiming Victim

More than $25,000 in donations has been raised to help the family of a Mexican national critically injured when he strapped himself under an Orange Coast College bus in a bid to enter the United States illegally.

Juan Jose Buenrostro lost his left arm when it became entangled in the drive shaft in the December incident. He also suffered major head injuries and remains in a coma in Tijuana under his mother’s care. He has a wife and four daughters.

OCC set up the foundation to aid Buenrostro after The Times published a story last month on the family’s plight. Donations may be sent to the Orange Coast College Foundation, 2701 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa, Calif. 92628, attention Buenrostro fund.
