Bryan, Hecht Win Nevada Senate Primaries

Nevada Gov. Richard H. Bryan crushed three Democratic rivals for the right to run in November against Sen. Chic Hecht, who easily won the Republican primary, Nevada primary election returns showed Wednesday.

James (Bo) Gritz, who has made forays into Southeast Asia in search of Vietnam War POWs, lost his bid for a nomination to the U.S. House of Representatives to Republican activist Lucille Lusk.

With all precincts reporting in Tuesday’s Democratic primary, Bryan, 51, garnered 61,987 votes, or 80%. “None,” an option listed on the ballot, came in second with 6,991 votes, or 9%, ahead of three other candidates.

Hecht, 59, had 55,352 votes, or 82%, “None” got 6,454 votes, or 10%, and Larry Scheffler had 5,617 votes, or 8%.
