Municipal workers in the Kern County city of Taft went on strike after rejecting the city’s latest contract offer. Leaders of the Taft chapter of the Kern County Public Employees Assn. called the strike after last-minute negotiations with the City Council failed. The workers rejected the city’s latest contract offer because they were unsatisfied with the medical benefits program for dependents, association officials said. Taft has about 50 city employees, but officials are unsure how many were participating in the walkout.
