President Reagan today sent a Cabinet-level team to the West to see what additional federal help is needed in fighting forest fires, and the White House said the number of military personnel on the fire line is likely to be increased.

Spokesman Marlin Fitzwater said Reagan met with Agriculture Secretary Richard E. Lyng, Interior Secretary Donald P. Hodel and Deputy Defense Secretary William Howard Taft IV. The three officials are expected to leave for the West on Friday. Fitzwater said they will visit Yellowstone National Park and other areas suffering from fires that have now covered 1.5 million acres in six states.
