A continuing paternity suit prompted General Manager Ladd Herzeg of the Houston Oilers to resign, but Oiler owner Bud Adams persuaded Herzeg to remain with the club on a day-to-day basis.

Adams and Herzeg issued prepared statements after a newspaper reported that Herzeg’s attorney, Steve Underwood, told a judge that the general manager had resigned.

Underwood said that Herzeg offered his resignation Tuesday night because of “a very personal and private matter.”
