Marriott Corp. said it will spend $1 billion over the next five years to expand its extended-stay lodging centers. Marriott plans to build 300 Residence Inns nationwide, with most of the units set for the Northeast, Midwest and West. Marriott already has 123 Residence Inns, which feature moderately priced, all-suite accommodations geared to customers staying in hotels for five or more nights at a time. The new units are scheduled for completion by the early 1990s, the company said. Residence Inns include either one- or two-bedroom suites, with complete kitchens.
