Local News in Brief : Program Offers Jobs With Pacific Bell

Share

Thirty-five unemployed South-Central Los Angeles young men and women will be hired at Pacific Bell under a jobs program announced Thursday by Mayor Tom Bradley.

They will get jobs as telephone operators and technicians at starting pay that ranges from $243.50 a week to $286 a week.

Bradley said the program is designed to save “young people who are out of work and who may be tempted to turn to illegal activities” and gangs. The Watts Labor Community Action Committee will screen applicants, and the Communication Workers of America will help Pacific Bell pay the costs of training the new workers.
