Coalition Against Homosexual Rights in Irvine

It is curious, I think, that a story on the senseless shooting of Sundaga Bryant appeared on the same page (Page 1, Orange County section, Sept. 6) as the story of a group in Irvine that is attempting to deny equal human rights to homosexuals. Curious because both stories involve the blatant denial of human rights.

Bryant was shot by yet more trigger-happy police (aren’t they supposed to be protecting us?) and, according to his wife (whose account of the incident I happen to believe), neither he nor she were allowed to verbally “defend” themselves. Moreover, she was handcuffed and not allowed to go to her husband’s side after he was seriously wounded. If this isn’t a denial of basic human rights, I don’t know what is. (I can’t help wondering if he would have been shot so quickly were he not black.)

As for the group in Irvine, they are pathetic. The part of the story about a gay athletic coach flaunting his (homo)sexuality is right out of the dark ages. Would they be happier were a heterosexual athletic coach to brag about his “chicks?”

These people keep insisting they want only to protect and maintain Irvine as a “family” community. I am ever so glad I don’t wish to live in Irvine or perhaps I would be run out of town as I am a single (by choice), non-parent (also by choice) female. Is my “group” next to be discriminated against in “Stepford”? Thank goodness that Irvine at least has people like Mayor Larry Agran to attempt to defend the principles on which America was built.
