John-Roger Revisited

Share

What was the purpose of the article about John-Roger, apart from airing hearsay and gossip more suited to a tabloid in the guise of an informative albeit highly inaccurate feature?

John-Roger’s home, for instance, is certainly comfortable; to imply it is anything more is exaggeration. It seems appropriate for John-Roger to fly first class, given the tremendous number of hours he spends traveling in the services of the organizations he directs. His late model Lincoln Continental is a step up from the brown Chrysler he drove for years, but a far cry from what is considered a luxury automobile in this town. And it is peculiar to imply that a car phone in Los Angeles is an unusual luxury or that it is presumptuous for the guru to have the temerity to want to select it himself.

The financial commitment to study John-Roger’s teachings and to fully participate in MSIA as an initiate and minister is less than $200 a year. There are those who give more, but this is not a situation where dewy-eyed devotees are coerced into turning over their life savings so the preacher can ride in a fleet of Rolls-Royces, wear Savile Row suits, and wash his hands at solid-gold faucets.
