MANAMA, Bahrain —
A U.S. destroyer rescued three shipwrecked fishermen and was searching for a fourth after their two small craft foundered in rough seas in the Gulf of Oman, American naval officers said Monday.
A Navy official said the destroyer John Hancock had just finished escorting two U.S.-chartered cargo vessels out of the Persian Gulf when its patrol helicopter spotted the fishermen clinging to pieces of wreckage.
The fishermen were two Pakistanis and a United Arab Emirates citizen, all from the Emirates port of Fujaira.
