CAMPAIGN ’88 : Man Held in Death Plot

A man was charged Tuesday in a federal indictment with attempting to kill Dukakis.
The three-count indictment said Stephen W. Kimberling, 36, of Springfield, Mo., told an unidentified party that he would shoot Dukakis.
Kimberling was arrested Sept. 2 as he tried to board a plane at Springfield Regional Airport. He was carrying a pistol and a 7-inch hunting knife in his flight bag, authorities said.
