The Senate today easily approved the nomination of former Sen. Nicholas F. Brady, co-chairman and managing director of Wall Street’s Dillon, Read & Co. investment banking firm, as the next Treasury secretary.

Brady’s nomination cleared the Senate by a 92-2 vote after little debate. He sat through a mere two hours of polite questioning Tuesday before a Senate committee recommended him for the post on a 15-0 vote. Brady, 58, will succeed James A. Baker, who quit the Cabinet to run his friend Vice President George Bush’s White House campaign.
