La Verne : Housing Tract Plan Rejected

Share

The City Council has tentatively rejected a proposal to build 250 homes in the city’s foothills.

Council members said they were concerned about the appearance of the homes and the loss of vegetation.

Lewis Homes of California appealed to the council to overturn a city Planning Commission recommendation that the company be denied permission to build the 217.5-acre project. The council ordered that public hearings on the project be held at its Tuesday meetings. The final vote will be taken at the Oct. 17 meeting.

Supporters of the housing tract say it is pivotal to the formation of a tax assessment district that would fund a proposed new elementary school.
