Local News in Brief : Elderly Helped in Move

Share

In a “good neighbor” spirit, members of the Lawndale Soroptimist Club this week are helping elderly Hawthorne residents move into Hawthorne’s new 75-unit senior housing project at 13000 Doty Ave., project organizer Kathy Hutzler said.

“Some of the low-income seniors obviously don’t have the funds to hire a mover,” Hutzler said. Businesswomen from the service club will be helping residents move into the project during the next week or two, she said. As many as half of the residents may not have family members or others who can help.

The housing project is open to seniors with individual incomes of no more than $13,400 a year, and rents range from $65 to $325 a month, depending on income, according to Hawthorne housing official Carol Norman. Norman also is a member of the Lawndale City Council.
