Israel, Hungary Agree to Restore Relations

BUDAPEST, Hungary —
Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir said today that Israel and Hungary have agreed to gradually restore diplomatic ties after a 21-year break and pledged close contacts with central Europe’s largest Jewish community.
Shamir, on a private visit to Hungary, is making the first trip by an Israeli prime minister to a Soviet Bloc country other than Romania since 1967.
