Indeed, Credit Where Due

Share

On Sept. 10, The Times published a letter by Pat Finn titled, “Credit Where Due,” where she ascertains that the documentary I directed, “Ballad of an Unsung Hero,” is a KPBS production.

I would invite Finn to read the credits on the documentary and on the press kit she helped generate for its airing in 1983. She would see that it is indeed a Cinewest-KPBS co-production.

Cinewest was already at work on this documentary when KPBS’s Paul Espinosa asked to participate on this project. After overcoming many obstacles and resistance from KPBS’s administration, Espinosa and Cinewest managed to structure this co-production that eventually earned both Cinewest and KPBS an unprecedented number of awards and recognition.

I cannot imagine why Finn, director of advertising and promotion for KPBS, would write a letter to The Times without bothering to check facts so readily at her disposal. I can only blame it on KPBS and PBS’ pettiness and traditionally shoddy treatment of independent film makers nationally.
