Local News in Brief : Countywide : Property Tax Bills Will Go Out Next Week

Share

The county next week will begin mailing property tax bills totaling $1.2 million to 660,000 businesses and homes, county Treasurer-Tax Collector Robert Citron said Friday.

As in previous years, the bills will go out several weeks early, according to Citron, who said Orange County usually is the first of the state’s 58 counties to mail its tax bills.

The early mailings, he said, allow taxpayers to know well in advance what their taxes will be. The county benefits from expected earlier tax payments by many taxpayers, he said, because the payments will draw bank interest for a longer period of time.

The tax bills this year, he said, represent a 10% increase over last year, or $125 million more.

The first installment of tax payments for 206 separate taxing agencies, including school and community college districts, special districts and cities, are due Nov. 1 and become delinquent if they are not received or postmarked by Dec. 10.

People who pay their taxes through mortgage lender accounts will receive copies of their tax bills after Oct. 15, Citron said.

People who pay their taxes directly and who have not received their bills by Oct. 15 should call the tax collector’s office at (714) 834-3411.
