2 Bishops Drop Out of Democratic Party
Two Roman Catholic bishops, including Hartford’s Archbishop John Whealon, have announced that they are quitting the Democratic Party because of its support for the right to abortion.
Whealon wrote in his weekly column in the archdiocesan weekly that the party “has accomplished much for the nation” but it “has abandoned the Catholic Church” and he was “unable in conscience” to stay in it.
He said the party “is officially in favor of executing unborn babies whose only crime is that they temporarily occupy their mother’s womb.”
Earlier, Auxiliary Bishop Austin Vaughan of New York said he was “dropping out of the Democratic Party because of its total unconcern for the fate of unborn children.”
