Scheduling the Weak Has Purposes for UCLA
I’m sick to death of all the biased comments aimed against the UCLA football program.
The reason UCLA schedules San Diego State and Cal State Long Beach is that there is a lot of regional interest in such contests, which in addition, provide a nice monetary purse, as well as much-needed exposure to two programs that are on the way up.
In the next three years, the Bruins are scheduled to play such teams as Michigan, Tennessee, Brigham Young and Oklahoma.
As for Brian Wren’s inane comments (Viewpoint, Sept. 10) regarding Troy Aikman’s statistics being padded by games against San Diego and Long Beach, consider this: In the SDSU game, Troy Aikman played just one series into the second half and overall connected on 13 of 17 passes. No, Terry Donahue doesn’t have to pad Aikman’s statistics.
