Local News in Brief : La Palma : Supermarket Robber Fires Pistol, Takes $400
A robber with a pistol walked into an Alpha Beta supermarket Sunday morning and fired a shot into the store ceiling before forcing a clerk to empty the safe of $400 and fleeing, police said.
No injuries were reported.
Witnesses said they thought the gunman was hiding in the store at 5420 La Plama Ave., Police Sgt. Mike Sellers said, so officers surrounded the building shortly after 8:30 a.m. and cleared it of people before sending a dog inside to search.
Zonix the police dog could not find the gunman, who had apparently escaped before police formed a cordon, Sellers said.
