Mister S.M., ridden by Jose Santos, stunned a crowd of over 21,000 at Laurel Race Course by upsetting heavily favored Little Bold John in the $200,000 Maryland Classic.
It was the second winner of the day for Santos, who also had two seconds and two thirds on the third annual Maryland Million Day.
Little Bold John, who won the Classic last year, went off as a 3-to-10 favorite, but Mister S.M., a 4-year-old who had not won a race in more than a year, won by a half-length.
