Incensed at Scenting

Share

I guess it’s not bad enough that the air is so polluted that just breathing is hazardous to my health or that I can’t pick up a magazine or open my mail without being assaulted by the stench of Giorgio or some other fragrance-of-the-month. Now some genius wants to pipe mood-altering scents into the already polluted air of my workplace (“The Scenting of America” by Beth Ann Krier, Sept. 8).

This is an idea whose time should never come. It is both unhealthy and a gross invasion of privacy.

With a gaping hole in the ozone layer, medical waste washing up on our beaches and toxic clouds causing residents to flee their homes, the energies of these great innovators would be better spent looking for ways to diminish the environmental crisis, not exacerbate it.
