Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., which agreed last week to acquire Macmillan Inc. for $85 a share, said in a filing with the SEC that it will sell some of Macmillan’s assets after it merges with the publishing company. KKR said it plans to evaluate Macmillan “with a view to identifying assets which could be sold in order to generate cash to apply to debt reductions.” KKR said it had no formal plans for selling assets at this time, but observers noted that Macmillan and KKR may be considering Robert Maxwell’s offer to buy the company’s information services for $1.4 billion.
