A $25,000 grant from the San Francisco-based Pacific Telesis Foundation is paying for distributing an educational outreach program to 100 elementary schools in the county.

The program, “Communications in the Arts,” was developed by the Modern Museum of Art in Santa Ana and consists of filmstrips, audiotapes and a scholarship and awards contest for student art and essays. It will be used in the Anaheim, Santa Ana, Garden Grove and Buena Park unified school districts.

“What we’re looking at here is 20,000 students,” said a foundation spokeswoman, adding, “One of our primary goals in terms of the arts is to make them more accessible to new audiences. The focus (of the program) is on schools that have a large minority population.”
