Opposition leader Benazir Bhutto gave birth to a son today, her first child since her arranged marriage to a wealthy local businessman last year, her family announced.

It said the 7-pound baby was delivered by Caesarean section four to five weeks prematurely at 9:30 a.m. at a public hospital in the southern port of Karachi.

Hospital sources said that Bhutto, 35, the daughter of hanged Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, was admitted Tuesday night and that both mother and child were in good health.
